Derek Fey - Fully Automatic Timing Official (FAT) - I have been a Nebraska Official since 2010 and have enjoyed getting to know great people involved with track and field. I have ran the scoreboard since 2010 and have enjoyed learning new software and tricks along the way. So, if there are any mistakes you see during a meet on the board, that was me!
I began running at Westside High School in Omaha in 1994. I was a four-time state medalist in cross country, 4x800m relay, 1,600 meter run and the 3,200 meter run. After high school, I ran track and cross country at Dana College where I became a two-time NAIA All-American in cross country and track. I was the GPAC Conference Champion in 2002 in cross country and have the school record for the half marathon at 1:09:23. Since Dana closed in 2009, that record can't be broken! After graduating I went on to coach at Dana as the head men's and women's cross country coach/assistant track and field coach.
In 2007, I took over the boys cross country program at Westside High School where I stayed until 2013. I was named head cross country coach at College of Saint Mary in 2014 and have been there since. I have coached Westside track and field since 2007 and continue to coach there. I've run eight marathons including a third place finish at the Jacksonville Marathon in 2003, runner-up at the Lincoln Marathon in 2004, and was the Omaha marathon champion in 2013. I finished 77th out of 25,000 at the Boston Marathon in 2009.
I currently teach social studies at Westside High School and have an 8-year-old named Miles. |
