I remember when America was 100% Black
I remember when 82.1% of Black women weren’t fat
I remember when Black people weren’t tempted to look White
And we proudly wore our hair “natural” because being Black was right!
So, make America Black again.
I remember when Black families existed
And Black men actually cared about their mothers and sisters, and
Intelligent Black men never referred to Black women as hoes and gold diggers, and
Intelligent Black people never referred to themselves as niggers.
So, make America Black again.
I remember not getting hired when “we" were “Black and Proud,” and despite the chatter
I’m still unemployed although supposedly “Black Lives Matter.”
I remember being "Black and Proud” and united as a race and culture,
Less consumed with integration giving greater focus to building “Blackness" within the nation.
So, make America Black again.
I remember when Black people were too smart to be tempted by White people,
Too smart to be brainwashed by the White man’s God and holy steeple,
Too smart to be brainwashed into a life a crime, or fooled by "White lies" written or spoken,
Too smart to be brainwashed as yet another acceptable “token.”
So, make America Black again.
I was there in the 1960s when White people denied my parents a meal and lodging, and
I was there in the 1970s when White people denied me a college education, a meal, and lodging, and
I was there in the 1980s and now as White people continue to deny me employment, and
I vividly remember all of it, and feeling so much better if I could live and work in my own neighborhood.
So, make America Black again.
I vividly remember the unique beauty and robust cultural richness of being Black
I vividly remember and I continue to experience the struggles, sacrifice, and
The hardships of my “Blackness”
I vividly remember giving absolute respect to Black parents and Black grandparents, and
I vividly remember the shame, ridicule, and embarrassment when Black people failed to do so.
I vividly remember all of it, so, make America Black again.
